Rooiels Outreach Holiday activities in December 2024 / January 2025
The Rooiels Outreach held another “1 whole sheep” raffle during the Christmas holidays. This was exceptionally well supported by our village residents and many others from further afield, and a total of 372 tickets were sold. Leading up to the final draw, eight weekly lucky draws were held for shopping vouchers at the Rooiels Village shop, donated by the owner and staunch Outreach supporter, Wimpie Stals. Thank you, Wimpie! The final draw for the whole (cut up and packed to freeze) sheep was held on the 23rd of December, and this was won by Rob Boyd from Betty’s Bay – Congratulations, Rob!
Wolfgang and his team of friendly volunteers, supported by members of the Rooi Tafel gang, spent the morning of 27th of December treating the R44 Clarence Drive maintenance team and municipal personnel to a “Christmas treat” lunch. There were big smiles all around 😊
We also hosted a couple of fun events, firstly the Rooiels Outreach Village Walk, which took place on the 16th December. We had 48 adults, 16 children, and 4 dogs taking part, which was a great turnout. In place of entry fees, we requested donations of any kind for distribution in communities in our mandated area, who are less fortunate than us.
Another great fun day was the Boule competition held on the 6th of January. 25 “competitors” entered, which were divided into 5 teams, playing a sort of “round robin” competition. We are most grateful to Willie and Denise Boltman, who offer their lovely garden for this event. The winning team walked away with a case of vintage wine, kindly donated by a Rooiels resident. A great amount of fun was had, and we are looking at hosting another Boule competition during the Easter holidays. Watch this space!
Then a very popular annual community event is the Boat Club Sheep Braai get-together, held in conjunction with the annual Crayfish competition. Tickets for this fun social are sold by the Rooiels Boat Club, who then support the various local organisations with financial contributions, including the Rooiels Outreach. We are most grateful for this support from our local Boat Club. Some of the Outreach trustees were on hand at the braai to help with organisation and clean-up afterwards.
The Rooiels Outreach also received a number of very generous donations in the form of household items, etc, from various Rooiels residents, which were given to KAWS (Kleinmond Animal Welfare Society), the KidsCan charity shop in Kleinmond and the Pikkewyntijes charity shop in Bettys Bay, thus supporting these valuable community initiatives. We also received a large round table with chairs and two single beds from a generous Rooiels resident, which were gifted to the Overstrand Youth Care Centre in Kleinmond, who were thrilled with these additions to the home.
