Heuningkloof fire

Early in 2021 there was a devastating fire at Heuningkloof, just past Kleinmond. Acres of land were destroyed, but thankfully there was no loss of human life. Firefighters and emergency personnel worked relentlessly to successfully contain the fire. First Aid supplies and food were delivered to the emergency personnel by Rooiels Outreach members and residents.

A golf day to raise funds for the firefighters was held at Kleinmond Golf Course, while our Rooiels Outreach program also gave financial aid to the fund. A big thank you to the Rooiels boatclub for their generous donation of R5000.

House Madalitsho, a place of safety for babies in the area, also incurred damages during the fire. A request for nappies and baby formula was made and we were able to respond by collecting individuals’ donations, as well as by donating from the Outreach Fund.

House Madilitsho’s security was also compromised, and a new security system was installed and generously paid for by a Rooiels resident.

Although there was no loss of lives, the impact of the damage to facilities and buildings had a tremendous impact on those involved.
