Brigadoon Village Pancake Day June 2026

Once again, the Rooiels Outreach hosted a “Pannekoek Day” at the Brigadoon Memory Care Village in Betty’s Bay. Supporting the residents of Brigadoon village is always a highlight in the annual Outreach calendar, and this year was no exception. The excitement was tangible in the residents’ lounge, as the team, supported by a few kind volunteers, set up gas burners, pans, spatulas, and huge volumes of pancake batter. Soon the pans were sizzling with golden pancakes being flipped and cooked, then drenched in delicious cinnamon sugar, rolled and stacked in chaffing dishes to keep warm.

In the meantime, Wolfgang was brewing his aromatic filter coffee, which is then served with a generous dollop of condensed milk – like a delectable dessert in a steaming coffee cup.

Once all 20 litres of pancake mix had been converted into the soft, delicate, golden stars of the show, residents lined up for their share in the sugary joy. Soon happy faces and sticky fingers were the order of the day, with many requests for ‘just one more, please!’ Residents and staff alike expressed their gratitude, and, after a good wipe down and clearing up of batter splatters, sugar everywhere and coffee splotches, we said goodbye till next time. What a privilege to be able to brighten up their day in such a sweet and enjoyable way!
