The Overstrand Youth Care Centre is one of Rooiels Outreach’s beneficiaries. The OYCC provides a home for displaced and vulnerable children aged 6 to 16 who have been removed from their homes by the authorities for various reasons, often because of financial hardship or more difficult circumstances. In February 2026, we donated a full set of high-quality stainless-steel cookware to replace the battered, bent aluminium pots and pans the centre had used for many years. Aside from appearance, aluminium cookware can leach aluminium and other metals into food, making it an unhealthy option for food preparation. New pots were therefore high on the centre’s priority list.
The centre’s cook, Nikky Coert, was delighted when she saw the gleaming new pots and promised to prepare even more delicious meals for the children. Who wouldn’t be inspired to cook with such excellent equipment?
