Week of 100 drawings

Giving back to the community has been proven to uplift the spirits of not only those receiving but of those doing the giving.

Inspired by Hermanus’s annual fund-raiser ‘A Night of 1000 Drawings’, artists in Rooiels, Pringle and Betty’s Bay responded enthusiastically to the Open call to donate an A5 drawing to be sold for R100, proceeds of which were to go to the Rooiels Outreach Trust.

The theme ‘A night of 1000 Drawings’ was modified to ‘A week of 100 Drawings’ as Rooiels is miniscule in comparison to the town of Hermanus. Once the invitation was extended, artists of all calibers stepped up and generously donated their artworks which were beautifully displayed in Bella Italia and Gossip Corner, two restaurants in Rooiels.

Both restaurants enthusiastically got into the swing of the theme by creating specials and offering discounts on meals should a patron buy an artwork. The public responded with warmth and generosity, seizing the opportunity to purchase some incredible artworks by respected artists at a bargain price.

The event was a win-win for all involved. The artists gave back by way of donating their creations, the restaurants had full tables, patrons gave and received, and the Trust received an outstanding amount of money at the end of the week.

Kudos and thanks are extended to every individual who contributed to the incredible success of this initiative. All the gestures of goodwill, no matter how big or small, are greatly appreciated.

It is hoped that ‘A Week of 100 Drawings’ will become an annual event.
