As the whole country gathers to play their part for the annual Mandela Day celebrations, The Rooiels Outreach Trust, together with Kleinmond Child Welfare, decided to do a soup kitchen for the Kleinmond informal community.
We are grateful to a Rooiels family who generously supplied 20 1kg packets of soup vegetables. In addition to this we supplied lentils, split peas, and vegetable stock. To round off the soup meal, we provided eighty loaves of bread.
There was great excitement in the community when the announcement was made that there was fresh, hot soup available. The community gathered with their cups, bottles, and various containers to get their share of the soup and bread. Some Outreach trustees and Rooiels residents were present to help hand out the soup and bread. The morning ended with many smiling faces and dry, empty soup pot.
What counts in life is not the mere fact that we have lived. It is what difference we have made to the lives of others that will determine the significance of the life we lead.
