Kleinmond Child Welfare Youth Day Career Expo
The Kleinmond branch of Child Welfare hosted a Career Expo Day on Monday 17th June, 2024, to celebrate Youth Day. Learners from the wider Overberg District Municipal area, representing 11 different schools in the area attended the event.
The expo was tailored to target Grade 10 learners specifically, as that is the time when learners need to make subject choices for their matric subjects. The aim was to expose the learners to as many as possible career options available to them.
The Rooiels Outreach approached the Rooiels community with a request for specialists in their fields to come and present aspects of their careers to the learners. We asked them to attend the Expo and to be available to chat to the learners about their specific jobs, qualifications needed, prospects and wider implications of following such a career path. Three residents very kindly stepped forward, and we could present information on careers in IT / technology, journalism, advertising and copy writing, and radiography.
Due to the fact that the 17th was a public holiday, the turn-out of learners was not particularly good, but hopefully we managed to give some of them some idea of what possibilities are out there. Well done, Kleinmond Child Welfare, and thanks to all involved.
